A week after voters cast ballots in the June 2 primary election, the field for Los Angeles mayor has been set.
Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman has officially moved into second place and advanced to the November runoff election, where she will face incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. The outcome became clear after additional ballots were counted over the weekend and into Monday.
Bass finished first in the primary with approximately 34.3% of the vote, while Raman secured about 28.6%. Former reality television personality Spencer Pratt, who had briefly held second place on election night, finished third with roughly 25.8% and will not advance to the general election.
Under Los Angeles’ nonpartisan election system, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the primary.
The race now shifts to a head-to-head contest between Bass and Raman ahead of the Nov. 3 election. Bass, elected in 2022 as Los Angeles’ first female mayor, is seeking a second term. Raman, who was elected to the City Council in 2020, entered the mayoral race earlier this year and steadily gained support as ballots were counted following Election Day.
Major issues expected to dominate the runoff campaign include homelessness, housing affordability, public safety, economic development, and the city’s recovery efforts following recent wildfires.
While election officials continue processing remaining ballots, the margin between Raman and Pratt has grown enough that Raman is now widely recognized as the second candidate advancing to November’s general election.
Latest unofficial results:
• Karen Bass — 34.3%
• Nithya Raman — 28.6%
• Spencer Pratt — 25.8%
• Other candidates — approximately 11.3% combined
Los Angeles voters will decide the city’s next mayor in the Nov. 3, 2026 runoff election.
