Actor James Caan Has Passed Away At Age 82

Actor James Caan has passed away at the age of 82.

In a statement posted via the actor’s Twitter account, his family states: “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. End of tweet”

Throughout his career, Caan was nominated for four Golden Globes, an Emmy, and an Oscar. 

Starting out in films such as “El Dorado” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Rain People,” Caan gained recognition portraying Sonny Corleone in “The Godfather” in 1972. He was nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe for the role in the Best Supporting Actor categories.

Although it was a cameo appearance, he returned as Sonny Corleone in the sequel “The Godfather Part II.”

Over the years, Caan starred in “Brian’s Song,” “The Gambler,” “Thief,” “Gardens of Stone,” “Misery,” “Dick Tracy,” “Dogville,” “Elf” and more recently in “Queen Bees.”

He received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1978.
