Stepping into Nocturnal Wonderland at Glen Helen Regional Park felt less like walking into a music festival and more like entering an adult theme park built inside a fantasy world. There was something about the colorful surroundings, larger than life production and sheer amount of things happening around me that immediately brought out my inner child.
Having visited Glen Helen Regional Park as a child, returning years later as an adult offered an entirely different perspective. What I remembered as a kid had been transformed into a sprawling playground for electronic music fans, with multiple stages, activations, art and plenty of opportunities to wander and discover something new. I was determined not to miss a thing.
I made my way to every stage throughout the night, although Aurora Plains and Mystic Wild quickly became my main destinations. The Rave Cave and Beatbox stage also received plenty of visits, giving me the opportunity to move between different sounds and experiences throughout the evening. That variety was one of the highlights for me. Each area offered its own energy, making it easy to spend the night moving from one environment to another. The Rave Cave in particular became a favorite stop, providing a different flavor of house music that helped keep the night feeling fresh.
The larger stages delivered on the production front. The visuals were a major part of the experience, particularly during Deadmau5 and T Pain’s performances. Both sets stood out not only because of the music, but because of how the visuals elevated the performances into full sensory experiences. TroyBoi was another standout of the night, while Partiboi69 brought a completely different energy that I thoroughly enjoyed. The combination made it difficult to stay in one place for too long. There was always another sound, stage or experience pulling me in a different direction.
Away from the stages, there were still plenty of reasons to explore. I stopped by the Beatbox activation for a few photos and made sure to get my obligatory shot at the Nocturnal sign. Those little moments became part of the overall experience, giving me a chance to step away from the dancing while still staying immersed in the festival atmosphere.
Food is another important part of any festival experience, particularly for those of us navigating dietary restrictions. As a vegan, I did find some options available throughout the festival. While some of the plant based offerings were on the expensive side, having choices available was still appreciated.
The crowd brought an unmistakable PLURR energy to the festival. There was a sense of openness and connection that made the environment feel welcoming, whether you were planted in front of a stage or simply wandering around taking everything in. That energy added another layer to the experience and made the festival feel like a community rather than simply a series of performances. By the end of the night, I was exhausted. Hours of dancing combined with navigating Glen Helen’s hills had taken everything I had left. And I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Walking away from Nocturnal Wonderland, my favorite memories were seeing Deadmau5 and T Pain, discovering different corners of the festival, spending time in the Rave Cave and experiencing the crowd’s infectious energy. It was an evening that reminded me why festivals can be about so much more than the lineup. For anyone who has never experienced Nocturnal Wonderland and is considering making the trip, there is plenty to discover. Bring comfortable shoes, bring your sense of adventure and give yourself time to explore.
