On Friday a gunman opened fire at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport in Florida.
According to reports, five people were killed and eight left injured. The gunman was taken into custody, according to law enforcement authorities.
Chip LaMarca, a Broward County commissioner said via his Twitter account that the shooter arrived in Fort Lauderdale aboard a Canadian flight with a gun in a checked bag.
"He claimed his bag and took the gun from baggage and went into the bathroom to load it. Came out shooting people in baggage claim," LaMarca tweeted.
Despite LaMarca's statement, aspokeswoman for the Canadian embassy said the shooting suspect has no connection to Canada.
The case is currently under investigation.
