Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that more than 45 Angelenos were brought inside from a longstanding encampment through the latest Inside Safe operation near several businesses and a Metro rail station in Highland Park.
But will they return to the streets shortly thereafter?
“Through more than 100 operations, Inside Safe has and will continue to save lives,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “Inside Safe is urgently bringing Angelenos inside from schools, places of worship, businesses and more to restore communities through Los Angeles. I want to thank Councilmembers Hernandez and Soto-Martinez for their continued partnership in this effort.”
“My office has been working for several months to connect unhoused residents in this area with housing and services,” said Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez. “This Inside Safe operation successfully brought dozens of people in Highland Park indoors, at a time where the rising temperatures in Los Angeles leave unhoused neighbors vulnerable and at increased risk of health complications. When we connect people to housing and a continuum of care, not only are we improving the public health and safety of our communities, we are saving lives.”
“Our homelessness crisis doesn’t stop at council district borders — and neither should our solutions,” said Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez. “That’s why I was proud to partner with Councilmember Hernandez and Mayor Bass to help bring more than 45 Angelenos indoors and one step closer to permanent housing.”
Tent encampments have come down in every council district.
