Less than one month after the Cuban flag was raised in Washington D.C., Havana, Cuba celebrates the American flag, raising it in front of the recently reopened U.S. Embassy for the first time in 54 years.

The U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry said on Friday, “It is time to unfurl our flags, raise them up and let the world know that we wish each other well.”

Kerry’s visit was the first by a U.S. Secretary of State since 1945. All relations between Cuba and the U.S. have been restored. Watch the raising of the flag here:

He added, “The United States will always remain a champion of democratic principles and reforms. We remain convinced the people of Cuba would be best served by a genuine democracy.”
