Sonia Manzano was about 21 years-old in 1972 when she was cast in the famous children’s TV program, “Sesame Street.” After 45 years, Manzano says goodbye to the role of Maria, and all of her colorful friends.
“After 45 years on Sesame Street, @SoniaMManzano will no longer appear on the next season,” American Libraries tweeted earlier this week at the American Library Association Annual Conference. It was there at Manzano announced her plans to leave the show.
For more than four decades, children have grown up watching Manzano, who ran a Fix-It Shop with her on-screen husband, Emilio Delgado.
The two-time Emmy nominee and award-winning writer also retweeted the ALA’s announcement and has reached out to her fans.
