Cyndi Lauper’s “Kinky Boots” Conquers At The 67th Tony Awards

Tony Awards 2013

The 67th annual Tony Awards opened on Sunday night with host Neil Patrick Harris strumming away on an acoustic guitar. But of course, as Broadway tradition goes, it quickly turned into a big musical spectacle with Harris in a tux dancing and grape-vining through each hit musical cast; singing alongside Mike Tyson. Lyrics made some funny stabs at Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hooper‘s “Les Miserables” infamous close-up shots. As for the big winners, The musical Kinky Boots earned five Tonys, including wins for leading actor Billy Porter and composer – the one and only 1980’s rock star – Cyndi Lauper. Matilda the Musical had three wins and the plays Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike took home the top play honors.
