Barbara Walters Announces Her Retirement

After 37 years of groundbreaking interviews with ABC News, hosting “The View” and being renowned for anchor specials such as “20 Years of 10 Most Fascinating People,” Barbara Walters is saying goodbye to TV journalism. Today she announced her plans for retirement on “The View.” Walters will remain executive producer of the show, which she created in 1997.

“I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on ‘The View’ and with ABC News,” she said. “I created ‘The View’ and am delighted it will last beyond my leaving it.”

Walters started in journalism in 1961 at NBC’s “Today Show.”
