Rock The Weekend: Easter/Passover Style

There aren’t a lot of great rock or pop shows happening in Los Angeles over the next couple of days. Of course, the reason for that is likely due to the fact that any show would be overshadowed by the two holidays consecutively happening this weekend. No band, no matter how amazing, can compete with thousands of years of tradition. The events that will be rocking L.A. this weekend are all Easter and Passover themed extravaganzas.

Downtown Easter Fest

Where: Grand Hope Park

Celebrate with your family this Sunday at the Downtown Easter Fest’s fifth year of egg hunts (with 1,000s of hidden eggs), colorful face painting, a bounce house, and even an old fashioned sack race. This event has everything, including a large arts and crafts station for the kids, eating contests, balloon animals, and of course a bevy of foods and drinks. What’s even better is that there is no charge for attendance. Last year nearly 1,000 people turned out in search of plastic eggs and a good time. Make sure you don’t miss out this year!

Easter Celebration at the Beverly Hills Hotel

Where: Beverly Hills Hotel

If you prefer a more refined, less hectic Easter, then you might want to head over to the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge on Sunday. Starting at 11:00am, they’ll be hosting a beautiful alfresco brunch. Boasting a delicious pre-fixe three-course menu including a complimentary glass of champagne and a trip to the dessert bar (which features tantalizing items like marshmallow lollipops and blueberry lemon tarts) this is the perfect way to toast the holiday in style. And, just in case you can’t resist, there will also be an egg hunt on the lawn from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Plates range from $55 for kids to $120 for adults.

Easter At The Hollywood Bowl

Where: The Hollywood Bowl

Surrounded by all the appetizing meals and children’s games and presents, it’s easy to forget that the Easter holiday is actually a religious one. The massive Easter service at the Hollywood Bowl reminds those who celebrate Easter what the day is really all about. This testament to communal belief begins at 11:00am (doors open at 9:00am), where they will be highlighting speakers such as Francis Chan (author of Crazy Love), a worship choir and a huge orchestra. This is a longstanding Hollywood tradition that continues today (many years past began with observers watching the sun rise together). Hosted by the Bel Air Presbyterian Church and Christian Assembly, the event is open to the public which no charge for admission.

Ahavat Zion Community Passover Seder 2013

Where: Olympic Collection Banquet and Conference Center

Saturday evening Downtown will be putting on a community Passover Seder. People are encouraged to bring their families and friends for a night of music, discussion, stories and celebration. For $40 for adults and $15 for children under 12, this is a great way to reconnect with the neighborhood and the spirit of the holiday. Passover officially ends on Tuesday so this is an excellent way to have some fun right in the middle of the holiday.
