Salt & Straw just announced its new vegan flavors, all part of their Vegandulgence Series, along with a brand-new Black Forest Ice Cream Cake that is both vegan and gluten-free. The team was kind enough to send over all five flavors, and I couldn’t wait to grab a spoon and dive right in.
Blood Rage Froyo Creamsicle – Tart and silky blood orange olive oil sorbet swirled together with creamy Cocojune coconut frozen yogurt
Chocolate Pistachio Milk & Cookies – Nutty pistachio-cashew ice cream flecked with TCHO chocolate stracciatella and crumbles of house-made vegan shortbread
Bananas Foster with Candied Pecans – Banana-infused coconut cream drizzled with bananas foster caramel and studded with candied pecans
Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge – Creamy coconut vanilla ice cream streaked with peanut butter, a coconut caramel fudge swirl, and flecked with shards of house-made peanut butter brittle
Death By Chocolate Chocolate Cake – Chocolate barley milk ice cream swirled with chocolate caramel fudge, hunks of chocolate cake, and chocolate ganache
I’ve never been much of a chocolate eater, but as I got older I said, “Why not?” Death By Chocolate Chocolate Cake was my first choice. Not at all overbearing and just the right amount of chocolaty goodness, this pint tasted like the lightest, fluffiest chocolate birthday cake you’ve ever had. I was genuinely amazed at how soft it was. Putting literal chunks of cake into ice cream is an age-old, not-so-secret way to add instant comfort—and it absolutely works here. Guess I’m not the chocolate hater I thought I was.
I LOVE peanut butter, so I was certain Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge was going to be delicious. I was right. You really can’t go wrong with this one. That caramel drizzle throughout the ice cream gives the perfect balance of sweet and salty, landing smoothly with every bite.
Bananas Foster with Candied Pecans had my taste buds screaming from the mountaintops. This was the only pint I finished in one sitting. The gymnastics this flavor had my taste buds doing were unreal. Once I took that first bite, I couldn’t stop. I was determined to see the bottom of an empty container. Rich, creamy, indulgent—this one is dangerously good.
Next up was Chocolate Pistachio Milk & Cookies. I don’t know whose idea it was to put pistachio in ice cream, but it’s a thing—and honestly, not a bad one at all. The textures popped on my tongue, almost like flavor fireworks. Another pint I nearly finished in one sitting before forcing myself to stop. Absolutely delicious.
Lastly, Blood Rage Froyo Creamsicle. Tart yet silky, with a bright citrus note that leans just sweet enough. If you like your ice cream with a candy-like sweetness, this one’s for you. It instantly reminded me of the variety of flavors you’d find at a childhood birthday party—fun, nostalgic, and satisfying. The perfect sweet treat at the end of a long day.
I could say Salt & Straw had me in mind when they were creating these mouthwatering flavors, but that would be a stretch. What I can say is that they truly rolled out all the stops with this series. Even if you aren’t vegan, the Vegandulgence lineup is something everyone can enjoy. These flavors prove that plant-based doesn’t mean sacrificing indulgence—it just means grabbing another spoon.
