Mae Muller Debuts New Single And Video “I Don’t Want Your Money”

Capitol Records released Mae Muller’s new single, “I Don’t Want Your Money,” and the accompanying video. The song’s soft, soulful vibe contrasts sharply with her very direct lyrics. Muller makes it clear that money can’t buy her love – after all, she’s financially self-reliant and looking for something deeper.

Mae Muller says, “I wrote ‘I Don’t Want Your Money’ just under two years ago now, and I’m so happy it’s finally out! I just wanted to show that there are other ways to be treated, rather than just materialistically, especially if you have your own money! I’m financially independent, so you have to find other ways to impress me, I don’t need anything else apart from love and affection. Treat me with respect and we’re GOOD.”

The track, which was included in Spotify’s RADAR: First Listen program, was co-written by Muller and Jimmy Napes (Sam Smith, Khalid, Alicia Keys), who produced it along with Steve Fitzmaurice. Mae shot the official video herself on her iPhone while quarantined at home. The video was directed remotely by Sophie Muller (No Doubt, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Beyoncé). In the light-hearted clip, Mae takes viewers on a colorful virtual journey of different looks, setting the scenes and displaying the emotions that come with having to explain what you do (and don’t!) need from a relationship.

Hailed as “a clear pop sensation in the making” by Wonderland and the “new queen” by NYLON, Muller’s music pairs self-assured lyrics with strong narratives and entwined soulful pop melodies – a style that is quickly cementing the young London-based artist as a spokeswoman of her generation. She brings the same lively sensibility to her weekly #STAYHOME Instagram series, “Muller’s Corner,” featuring a mix of other artists and fans. It can be seen each Friday at 11:00 AM PT. Muller notes, “I know what I want to say, and I know what the message is that I want to get across. I want women and young girls going through hard shit to put on my songs and feel better. We're going through this together…”
