Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Patriotic Paws For Veteran’s Day

helen woodward animal center, Patriotic Paws 2-Day

Kicking off this Veterans Day, Helen Woodward Animal Center salutes our military with a Patriotic Paws 2-Day Event. In partnership with Traci’s Paws, a non-profit organization dedicated to uniting orphan pets with military heroes, adoption fees will be covered for approved military families, while supplies last.  The special adoption promotion takes place thisSaturday, November 9th through Sunday, November 10th with adoption fees covered for approved military families.

The Patriotic Paws 2-Day Event is one way Helen Woodward Animal Center extends its gratitude towards the wonderful men and women who have served our country.  The unconditional love of a pet provides years of comfort, laughter, joy and devotion – crucial elements to assist military members and their families whose lives have been dedicated to dangerous careers and necessary bravery.  The families, in turn, are lifesavers to orphan pets longing to find their forever homes.

Proof of the symbiotic relationship between pets and the military can be seen in Helen Woodward Animal Center’s PET (Pet Encounter Therapy) program.  PET serves 60-70 veterans monthly (at the VA Hospital and the Hawthorne Center), utilizing therapeutic animals to help lower blood pressure, regulate breathing, improve memory and lift the spirits of wounded soldiers.

The Center’s AniMeals program also regularly assists the military thanks to a partnership with the natural pet food company Blue Buffalo.  The program provides pet food to wounded military clients with service dogs through the Recovery Care Coordinator Office (RCC) and the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS), ensuring that food costs are not a factor in keeping these beloved friends by the sides of the soldiers who depend on them.

Helen Woodward’s Companion Animal Hospital’s Military Fund also supports our military by offering free services to Active Duty Enlisted Military E-1 to E-7 or Disabled Military and their immediate family members.  The highly in-demand fund is consistently seeking donations to continue to provide these incredibly important services.   To donate to Helen Woodward’s Companion Animal Hospital’s Military Fund, please contact VP of Development Renee Resko at (858) 756-4117 x 347 or donate on-line at www.animalcenter.org.

This coming weekend, Helen Woodward Animal Center is proud to offer sponsored adoption fees to military families through its partnership with Traci’s Paws.  Both organizations share a belief in the wonderful healing quality of animals and the many ways they improve the lives of their human families.  Each year, Traci Wilkerson Steckel of Traci’s Paws teams up with local animal shelters to fulfill her organization’s mission of “Saving The World, One Animal At A Time,” by providing Free Pet Adoption Days for current, former/retired and/or immediate family members of the: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and National Guard.

“It’s so heartwarming to see military families open their homes to a new furry family member,” stated Dora Dahlke, Adoptions Services Manager. “We’re honored to assist these families in their search for a new forever pet.  Not only are they heroic for all they have given to our country, they are heroes for providing love to an orphan pet in need.”

Helen Woodward Animal Center encourages military families to visit the Center between Saturday, November 9th and Sunday, November 10th to find their new furry friend.
