The New York Knicks are on the verge of ending a championship drought that has lasted more than five decades.
In one of the most dramatic games in NBA Finals history, the Knicks stunned the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, overcoming a 29-point deficit to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. The comeback is being recognized as the largest in NBA Finals history.
For much of the game, it appeared the Spurs were headed toward evening the series. Led by Victor Wembanyama and a red-hot shooting performance, San Antonio built a massive first-half advantage and carried a 29-point lead into the break. But the Knicks responded with relentless defense and a second-half surge that electrified the Garden crowd.
OG Anunoby delivered one of the biggest performances of his career, scoring 33 points and sinking seven three-pointers. His game-winning tip-in with 1.2 seconds remaining capped the remarkable rally and sent Madison Square Garden into a frenzy. Jalen Brunson added 36 points and seven assists, once again proving why he has become the heart of New York’s postseason run.
The victory puts New York one win away from its first NBA championship since 1973. The Knicks entered the Finals by winning the first two games in San Antonio before the Spurs responded with a Game 3 victory. Now, after reclaiming momentum with the historic Game 4 comeback, New York heads back to Texas with an opportunity to close out the series in Game 5.
For a franchise whose passionate fan base has endured decades of near-misses and rebuilding years, this postseason has become one of the most memorable in team history. Madison Square Garden has once again become the center of the basketball world, and the Knicks are now just one victory away from bringing the Larry O’Brien Trophy back to New York.
Whether the Spurs can force a return to New York remains to be seen, but Game 4 will be remembered as one of the greatest comeback victories the NBA Finals has ever witnessed.
