While students across the country clear out of class in search of summer fun, adventure-bound hounds will be diving into their studies with Helen Woodward Animal Center.
The Center’s annual Surf Dog lessons at Dog Beach in Del Mar are set to make a splash this summer, kicking-off the weekend of June 20th. Book-study isn’t required, but the highly-anticipated classes will have beach-loving pups hitting the waves to prep for the highly anticipated annual “Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon® presented by Blue Buffalo,” scheduled for Sunday, September 13th, 2015. Back by pup-ular demand, Stand-Up Paddle Boarding classes will also glide back into the water for dogs that prefer a smooth ride over white water surf. Local Paddle Paws and SurFURS can enroll for instruction starting Saturday, June 20th and continuing select Saturdays and Sundays through August, between 8:30am and 1:00pm.
Helen Woodward Animal Center Surf Dog lessons offers limited spaces in each class to maximize safety and fun in each class, so spots fill up quickly. Surf classes run 50 minutes in length and Paddleboarding classes run 70 minutes in length. Each takes place mostly in the water with brief on-land instruction as an intro, so be prepared to get wet. All classes cost $45 with a $10 discount offered off any additional lessons and include the required canine life-vests and surf or paddle boards. Lessons are scheduled at 8:30am (Stand-Up Paddleboard only), 10:00am, 11:00am and 12:00noon on June 20th, July 19th and 25th and August 9th, 22th and 23rd. Dogs who take to the waves are encouraged to register for Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 10th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon® presented by Blue Buffalo on Sept. 13th, 2015. All proceeds from the classes and the annual competition go towards the animals and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
