The New York Daily News launched their partnership with the New York Yankees in honor of retiring Major League Baseball star and Yankees captain, Derek Jeter. To mark the occasion, the New York Daily News will be giving away 25 pairs of tickets to Derek Jeter Day on September 7th as a part of a contest. The Daily News will also make a $22,222.22 donation to Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation, which promotes healthy lifestyles for kids, to be presented at a ceremony on Friday, September 19th, 2014.

As part of the partnership, the New York Daily News will run a special Jeter-dedicated section in its September 7th print edition featuring 30 pages of editorial, including an in-depth look at Jeter’s rise to baseball greatness by Wayne Coffey as well as a special column flanked by iconic photos, key stats and graphs, and a special commemorative Derek Jeter poster by Daily News artist Ed Murawinski. Sports columnist Mike Lupica and Baseball Hall of Fame columnist Bill Madden will also reflect on Jeter’s career and historic impact on the game of baseball.
The special section will also give readers a chance to wish the beloved shortstop farewell with select reader letters as well as emails, Tweets and Instagram messages—with the hashtag #FarewellCaptain—called out in the print special section and online.
