Some of Dior’s most celebrated fragrances are returning to their original brilliance.
Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creation Director for the House of Dior, has undertaken the restoration of 13 fragrances spanning nearly 80 years of Dior perfume history. The project, titled “Dioriginals,” revisits compositions ranging from the classics of legendary perfumer Edmond Roudnitska to more recent creations.
Unlike a written formula, which can remain unchanged for decades, the ingredients used to create a fragrance are constantly evolving. Harvests, terroir, suppliers, ingredient availability and changing regulations can all subtly affect a perfume over time.
Working alongside the Dior Perfume Creative Studio, Kurkdjian returned to the original formulas with the goal of restoring the balance, character and nuances that defined each scent when it was first created.
“A perfume should be cherished and looked after like a fragile work of art that is subject to the vagaries of time,” Kurkdjian explained, comparing the process to restoring the luster and color of a painting.
The Dioriginals collection includes Diorama, Eau Fraîche, Diorissimo, Diorling, Diorella, Dioressence, Jules, Dolce Vita, Dune, Dune pour Homme, Higher, Forever and Ever and Higher Energy.
The fragrances are offered as Eau de Toilette, with Diorama, Diorella, Dioressence, Diorissimo, Diorling, Dolce Vita, Dune, Eau Fraîche and Forever and Ever priced at $155. Dune pour Homme, Higher, Higher Energy and Jules are priced at $142.
