This past weekend it was announced by President Obama that 28 year-old Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was held captive by the Taliban for five years was released. Today, the Afghan Taliban posted a video on their website which shows the handover of the American soldier to U.S. Special Operations Forces in a remote part of eastern Khost province.
Just over a month after Bergdahl was deployed to Afghanistan, he was captured in the Paktika province in June of 2009.
According to CNN reports, in February of this year, U.S. officials had begun discussions with intermediaries regarding a possible release of the Sgt. On May 31st, Obama announced Bergdahl’s release in exchange for five detainees at Guantanamo Bay to Qatar.
