83 Years Ago The National Anthem Was Born

Today is National Anthem Day. On March 3, 1931, President Herbert Hoover signed a bill designating the Star Spangled Banner the official national anthem of the United States.

It was written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 after he witnessed the British attack on Baltimore Harbor.

The sight of the American flag flying over Fort McHenry inspired his legendary words. To celebrate, here is a video clip of Whitney Houston singing the National Anthem in 1991.
