Fall 2026 Forecast: What Los Angeles Residents Can Expect This Autumn

With the hottest summer in recent history, Los Angeles residents can look forward to a fall season that is expected to feel a bit cooler than usual, according to the 2026 Fall Weather Forecast.

While much of the nation’s interior—from the Northern Plains through the Heartland and into the Deep South—is forecast to experience warmer-than-average temperatures during September and October, the Pacific Coast, including Southern California, is expected to see temperatures that trend slightly cooler than average.

For Angelenos, that could mean a more comfortable start to autumn, with fewer prolonged heat waves compared to recent years. Although Southern California will still experience plenty of warm, sunny days, cooler afternoons and evenings may arrive earlier in the season.

Rainfall is also expected to be higher than average along much of the West Coast. While Los Angeles typically remains relatively dry during the early fall months, the forecast suggests an increased chance of precipitation as the season progresses. Residents should still remain mindful of fire weather conditions, as even cooler temperatures do not eliminate wildfire risks during Southern California’s dry season.

Nationally, forecasters predict drier-than-average conditions across much of the United States, with the exception of the West Coast, the central and northern Rockies, parts of Texas, southern Florida, and portions of the Northeast, where above-average rainfall is expected.

Overall, the Fall 2026 outlook points to a season of cooler temperatures and a slightly wetter pattern for Southern California—welcome news for many Angelenos hoping for relief after another long summer.
