Runways and magazine covers aside, William Franklyn-Miller is not just another pretty face. Although the British-born actor is known for his modeling career, he has also begun to make his mark on screen in projects including Arrow, Neighbours, and Medici, in which he played Giovanni de’ Medici.
An obvious English gentleman from the moment he begins to speak, there is a star quality about the 22-year-old actor.
Stepping into the shoes of America’s first president and portraying George Washington himself is certainly the role that could catapult Franklyn-Miller into leading-man status from here on out.
Director Jon Erwin (House of David) entrusted the young actor to lead the charge in his latest film, Young Washington.
Where most films and series focus on the Revolutionary War, Erwin takes us back to George Washington’s early years. Like many who have made it into our history books, Washington had to grow up fast. His passion for the military and the uniform, combined with his perseverance to serve, thrust him into the French and Indian War. At just 21 years old, Washington found himself at the center of a global conflict.
It turns out that Franklyn-Miller was the same age as Washington while filming. Studying the first president’s early writings, he took the emotionally and physically demanding role by the reins.
Franklyn-Miller adds a sensitive depth to the character, showing much versatility. His skills easily stood up alongside those of his co-stars as he shared the screen with veteran icons including Kelsey Grammer, Mary-Louise Parker, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Andy Serkis.
In his interview with LATF News, Franklyn-Miller talks about challenges, stunts, and the role he really wants to play. I’d say give it a decade or so, and he could easily take his martini shaken, not stirred.
YOUNG WASHINGTON is slated for a nationwide theatrical premiere on July 3, 2026 (Independence Day Weekend), coinciding with the historic 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
