Jaime Moore Is Los Angeles’ New Fire Chief

Los Angeles has a new Fire Chief.

The Mayor swore in Jaime Moore as the next Fire Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), following his confirmation by the Los Angeles City Council. Chief Moore, a 30-year veteran of the department, becomes the second permanent Latino Fire Chief in the city’s history and the first bilingual leader to hold the position.

“Today marks an important and inspiring moment for Los Angeles and for our Fire Department,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “Chief Moore embodies the very best of public service – courage, integrity, and a deep commitment to the people of Los Angeles. As we continue strengthening our emergency response and implementing a suite of reforms, I know he will work to make every neighborhood safer. I have no doubt that Chief Moore will lead with compassion and urgency from today on.”

Chief Moore takes the helm of one of the nation’s largest fire departments during a pivotal time for our city. Under Chief Moore’s leadership, the LAFD will continue to advance necessary  reforms to strengthen our emergency preparedness, improve response times, modernize operations through data, technology, and enhance firefighter wellness and morale.

“It is the honor of a lifetime to serve as Fire Chief,” said Chief Jaime Moore. “This department is built on the dedication and bravery of thousands of men and women who protect Angelenos every day. Together, we will continue to evolve – preparing for major disasters, world events, and the daily emergencies that impact families across Los Angeles. I am all in and ready to get to work.”

Chief Moore’s appointment follows an extensive career that has spanned leadership in major wildfire responses, arson investigations, counter-terrorism, and operations management.

As Deputy Chief of Operations for the Valley Bureau, he oversaw more than 1,000 firefighters and civilian staff across 39 stations. He also played a role in professionalizing FireStat LA, the department’s performance management and data-driven operations system.
