The Olympic Flame Will Have A Parade In Marseille

On May 8th, the Olympic Flame is set to arrive in Marseille ahead of the Paris Olympics.

The Belem will take part in a maritime parade before making a grand entrance into the Old Port.

Marseille is preparing to welcome the Olympic Flame. The arrival of the Flame in Marseille is a joint ambition. Paris 2024, the city of Marseille, the metropolitan area of Aix-Marseille-Provence, the Southern Region and the Bouches-du-Rhône department are fully mobilised to make this event an historic celebration, alongside the sponsors of the Torch Relay: Coca-Cola, Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne, who will provide memorable moments.

After being lit in Greece at the ancient site of Olympia, the Olympic Flame will arrive in the city of Marseille by sea, on board the Belem, the three-masted ship of which Caisse d’Epargne is the main patron.

It will enter the Old Port on board this majestic ship after a 12-day crossing of the Mediterranean from the port of Piraeus.

To celebrate the return of the Games to France after a 100-year wait, Marseille will be the scene of a huge public celebration. A host of events are planned for this exceptional day, which will open with a grand maritime parade to welcome the arrival of the Belem.

To enable all boat-owners in the region to take part in this grandiose arrival, Paris 2024 is today launching a platform enabling sailors, boaters and maritime professionals to register for the maritime parade that will accompany the arrival of the Belem in the Old Port.

Several hundred boats are expected to escort the Olympic Flame in a maritime armada.

All sailor and boaters from Marseille and throughout the region are invited to join in the arrival of the Flame in a magnificent and popular spectacle. They will all be able to accompany the Belem through Marseille’s harbour to the entrance to the Old Port. The only condition: register on the platform launched today by Paris 2024

The arrival of the Olympic Flame in Marseille will kick off the Torch Relay and the four-month celebrations of the Games in France.
