The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) faced an incredible amount of controversy surrounding lack of diversity in board members / voting, nominations and beyond. As a punishment of sorts, the Golden Globe Awards did not air last year and stars boycotted the ceremony.
Clearly, the industry decided to give the Globes another chance. NBC aired the show on a Tuesday night with comedian Jerrod Carmichael as host. Stars from Steven Spielberg to honoree Eddie Murphy, Selena Gomez, Brad Pitt, Rihanna and more were in the audience.
The three-hour telecast serves as the official kickoff to the 2023 award season airing live from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., on NBC and Peacock.
