Just days before the French presidential election, yet another attack strikes the heart of Paris.
According to reports, one police officer and a shooter were killed on Thursday night.
French Ministry Spokesman, Pierre Henry Brandet said that a car stopped at 102 Champs-Elysees, in front of a police van. The attacker, which has not been identified as a man or a woman, proceeded to open fire. The police returned fire and killed the attacker. Two more people were injured.
Police Secretary Yvan Assioma said, "We don't have a precise idea of the origin of the shots fired. One or more perpetrators were taken down by our colleagues, there was a cross fire."
Reports from the French government state that the police were deliberately targeted.
The Champs-Elysees is temporarily closed to vehicle traffic and businesses on the popular strip have been shut down.
It has not been confirmed as a terror attack as of yet.
