Week Thirteen ends with Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers and the controversial San Francisco 49ers' Colin Kaepernick being benched. Newton was benched for violating the team's dress code and not wearing a tie on the team’s flight to Seattle, while Kaepernick was benched in the fourth quarter of their game against the Chicago Bears, after stinking up the stadium for the first three quarters. Newton's punishment was to sit out the first series of downs while his one-snap replacement threw the ball to the wrong team, putting the Panthers in a hole they could not dig out of resulting in a 40-7 whipping. What kind of punishment is that? And at the time of Kaepernick's benching he had completed 1 of 5 passes for 4 yards, thus became the first player in NFL history to have more sacks than throwing yards in a game.
