According to FBI Special Agent William Sweeney, bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami is believed to be linked to the backpack which caused a bombing on Saturday in Seaside Park, New Jersey and the explosion in New York which wounded 29 people.
"We have every reason to believe this was an act of terror," New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday.
After a shootout between Rahami and police, the suspect is now in surgery, according to Union County acting prosecutor Grace Park.
Park added that none of the officers wounded in the shootout were seriously injured.
Rahami was identified by officials on surveillance video planting the bombs in Chelsea.
According to a senior law enforcement official, the suspect's fingerprints were also found on one of the pressure cooker bombs in Manhattan.
