A standoff between authorities and a gunman at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs ended just before 5 P.M. on Black Friday.
Identified as 57 year-old Robert Dear, the gunman started shooting in the late morning hour before surrendering hours later.
Carrying an AK-47 style weapon, Dear is reported to have burst into the clinic. Three people, including a police officer were killed, according to Colorado Springs Police Department Lt. Catherine Buckley. Nine others were wounded during the shooting.
Planned Parenthood tweeted:
Planned Parenthood @PPact: While we are still learning about the motivations, we share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating … a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country.
