Nashville Movie Theater Shooting: Gunman Taken Down

Metro police chief speaks at press conference

Twenty-nine year-old, Vincente David Montano had a history of mental health issues, according to police.

On Wednesday, Montano entered a Nashville, Tennessee movie theater with a pellet gun, a hatchet and pepper spray. Gunshots were reported in the early afternoon before the city police were dispatched. Montano was fatally shot shortly after police arrived. A handful of people were treated for exposure to pepper spray.

“This guy, this shady looking guy, stood up with like two bags and walked to the back of the theater and he pulled out a hatchet and started attacking this family,” the 911 caller said. “And then he pulled out a gun and we all ran out of the theater.”

Police spokesman Don Aaron said in a press conference that Montano had been arrested on an assault charge in 2004, and had been committed for mental health care four times between 2004 and 2007.
