Just before a gunman shot two New York City police officers “execution-style,” the murderer announced his plan on the internet. According to reports, the gunman posted that he planned to shoot two “pigs” in retaliation for the police chokehold death of Eric Garner.
The shooting took place in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Later, the gunman killed himself.
New York City Police Commissioner William J. Bratton said, “They were, quite simply, assassinated, targeted for their uniform and the responsibility they embraced… Both were ambushed and murdered.”
While on vacation in Hawaii, President Obama released a statement saying, “Two brave men won’t be going home to their loved ones tonight, and for that, there is no justification. The officers who serve and protect our communities risk their own safety for ours every single day – and they deserve our respect and gratitude every single day.”
