On Sunday, the American and British Marines walked away from their Afghanistan base after 13 years of being stationed at Camp Leatherneck. According to reports, the massive military base was transferred over to the Afghan military.
This served as the regional headquarters of the international military for over a decade after the toppling of the Taliban’s radical Islamist regime. Camp Leatherneck is the largest U.S. base to be handed over to Afghan control. Now the fight against existing Taliban is mostly in the hands of the Afghan army and police.
