The 7th Annual Sunset Strip Music Festival: LA Loves Rock ‘N’ Roll

From Slash to Linkin Park, LATF has seen many impressive Sunset Strip Music Festivals throughout the years. It is truly a celebration and tribute to the past and fresh rockers who call the Sunset Strip their home: The Roxy, The Whiskey A Go Go, The Rainbow Bar, The Viper Room. These are the venues where hitmakers tested their songs and grew their fan base.

In its 7th year, SSMF is going strong. With Nederlander as the new promoter, the festival expanded its base with a third stage hosted by MURS 316. Jack Daniels and Bud Light hosted a beer garden and Coca-Cola handed out ice-cold cans of soda as people passed by. The spotlight of the two day fest: 70 bands.

Say Say, Crosses, Minus the Bear, Destructo, Iration, Mayer Hawthorne, the list goes on. On Saturday night, Cold War Kids rocked the West Stage. The band wasted no time with speeches, rocking the crowd with songs such as “Audience,” “Santa Ana Winds” and their radio hit “Hang Me Up To Dry.” More people gathered around for the festival honorees, Jane’s Addiction, who gave us a hint of their concert the night before at The House of Blues.

Perry Farrell and the band celebrated the 25th anniversary their studio debut “Nothing’s Shocking.” Talk about passion, each band member gave 100% on stage; singing the songs as if it was the first time.

The weekend ended with a bang when Empire Of The Sun took the stage on Sunday night. Although the attendance may not have been as good as in past years – due to iHeart Radio in Vegas – SSMF is a festival dedicated to the true fans of rock ‘n’ roll. That’s a different beast than Ariana Grande.
