After losing American journalist, James Foley to the hands of ISIS in late August, another has been murdered just weeks later.
The United States government has confirmed and verified an Internet video showing the beheading of U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff by the Islamic State group. Sotloff was last seen in Syria in August of 2013. It wasn’t until ISIS sent a video of James Foley’s brutal murder that Sotloff reappeared.
In an orange jumpsuit, Sotloff was on his knees. The man dressed in all black threatened that Sotloff would be the next to die if the U.S. did not stop airstrikes on the group in Iraq.
On Tuesday, the video of Sotloff’s death was sent and titled, “A Second Message to America.” Sotloff spoke to the camera saying that he is “paying the price” for U.S. intervention.
Just one day before, on September 2nd, President Obama authorized the Department of Defense to fulfill a Department of State request for approximately 350 additional U.S. military personnel to protect our diplomatic facilities and personnel in Baghdad, Iraq.
In a statement, the President said, “Whatever these murderers think they will achieve by killing innocent Americans like Steven, they have already failed. We will not be intimidated. Their horrific acts only unite us as a country and stiffen our resolve to take the fight against these terrorists.”
