Violence between Israel and Palestine has reached a new height. According to reports, the Israeli military said Gaza militants fired more than 160 rockets. Although it is unknown whether casualties or damage have occurred, the military said more than 100 have landed in Israel.
On late Tuesday, Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza claimed that they had fired up to 40 long-range rockets. Some were intercepted over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. As reported by the New York Times, ‘Hamas also claimed to have launched a rocket toward the northern Israeli city of Haifa, 88 miles away, which if confirmed would be the farthest range yet of the Gaza-based weapons.’
A spokesman for Hamas said, “Every Israeli is a target.”
The commander of Israel’s Home Front, Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon declared a special security situation. He said, “We are preparing for action against Hamas, which will not end in a few days.”
