Rising Star Luke Bracey Takes Lead in “Point Break” Remake

>Australian actor, Luke Bracey has claimed the role of “Johnny Utah” in Alcon Entertainment’s remake of “Point Break.” Keanu Reeves originally played the character in the 1991 cult classic, which followed FBI agent Utah as he infiltrated a gang of bank robbing surfers. The reboot follows more or less the same storyline, but will be geared more toward extreme sports and will co-star Gerard Butler.

This casting news, along with his already crowded slate of films, make the handsome Bracey seem poised to be a breakout star very soon. The up-and-comer got his start only five years ago on the Australian soap opera Home And Away, a show that can also boast fellow Aussie Chris Hemsworth as a one time series regular. Bracey was on the soap opera for two years. In 2011, he jumped into his first Hollywood feature with the Selena Gomez starrer Monte Carlo and then in 2013, he played the villainous, masked Cobra Commander in GI Joe: Retaliation. Since then, Bracey has become something of a hot commodity, with four films in post-production and the Nicholas Sparks adaptation, The Best of Me, in pre-production.

The original Point Break helped usher Reeves into stardom, only time will tell if the remake will do the same for Bracey.
