“New Girl” Zooey Deschanel Gets A New Music Deal

Spirit Music Group announced today the signing of a multi-year North American publishing administration agreement with singer-songwriter and musician Zooey Deschanel. Through the deal, Spirit will provide a wide range of creative services for Deschanel’s complete back catalog and future works.

Deschanel, a prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, is best known for her work in She & Him, a collaboration with writer/artist M Ward.  Since their debut in 2008, the duo have released four acclaimed albums which have sold more than 1 million copies, including holiday perennial A Very She & Him Christmas and last year’s Volume 3.

She & Him have attracted a legion of fans in recent years, playing festivals such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Savannah, Sasquatch, Verve and SXSW and launching a successful U.S. tour in 2013 and all of their releases have landed in the upper reaches of the Billboard Album chart.

Deschanel has also regularly contributed songs to films in which she has acted, including “Yes Man,” “Bridge To Terabithia,” “500 Days Of Summer” and, perhaps most famously, “Elf,” which featured her classic performances of the holiday standards “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town”.   She has been a regular presence on network television, as well, acting and occasionally singing on such acclaimed shows as “House,” “The Simpsons” and “The New Girl,” the popular Fox sitcom in which she stars and for which she wrote and produced the theme song.
