Sundance Spotlight: ‘Wish I Was Here” & “Obvious Child” Sold

In movie deal news from Park City, Utah — two big Sundance Film Festival premieres have found distribution homes.

Zach Braff’s “Wish I Was Here,” (Read Review) which was almost fully funded through a Kickstarter campaign has caught the attention of Focus Features. FF acquired the film and closed a deal with the sale tag price of $2.75 million. According to reports, the theatrical commitment includes about 600 theaters. The film will also be seen in some international territories.

First time feature writer/director Gillian Robespierre has sometime to smile about. A24 has acquired “Obvious Child,” starring Jenny Slate (Read Review). WME Global brokered the sale of the film. Supposedly the deal was for low seven figures.
