Cairo Mosque Under Siege After Tear Gas Fired

Amidst the bloodshed and chaos in the streets of Egypt, the police have taken a siege of a mosque in Ramses Square. More than 1,000 protesters have been in the mosque since Friday night.

Police broke down the front door and fired tear gas inside. According to Dr. Ibrahim Al Yamani, who is in charge of documenting the casualties, a thirty-something woman died after she suffocated from the tear gas.

Inside the mosque are women, children and many injured citizens. They were taken to the mosque after being killed or injured in Friday’s horrific protest. As reported by the LA Times, state media continues to report that there were armed men from the Muslim Brotherhood inside the mosque. More than 600 people were killed during this week’s protests.
