Violence in Egypt has only increased. The death toll has climbed to 525 as of Thursay. The streets look like war zones with smoke, battered cars and people screaming out. According to the Health Ministry, the dead are mostly supporters of previous Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and many police officers. Almost 4,000 people were wounded on Wednesday when security forces attempted to break up two sit-ins by protesters loyal to Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood.
As reported in the Washington Post, Obama said, “There remained a chance for reconciliation and the chance to pursue a democratic path. Instead we have seen a more dangerous path taken.”
