Weekend Movie Releases 1/25/13 – 1/27/13

Heist film veteran Jason Statham (The Transporter, Snatch, Crank) returns to the silver screen in yet another tale of corruption, violence, and explosions. Statham plays Parker, a thief who operates with Robin Hood worthy ethics. After getting double crossed by his old crew and left for dead, he vows to get even by uniting with a woman on the inside (Jennifer Lopez) in a plot to steal his ex-crew’s latest score.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

In the same vein as other classic fairy tale stories updated for modern audiences, the beloved Brothers Grimm tale is given a huge injection of 21st century ethos in Norway director Tommy Wirkola’s (Dead Snow) feature staring Jeremy Renner (The Born Legacy) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace).

Movie 43

Based on celebrity power alone, Movie 43 should deserve the Best Picture Oscar. Look for performances from Dennis Quad, Greg Kinnear, Common, Seth McFarlane, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Liev Schrieber, Naomi Watts, Anna Faris, Emma Stone, Richard Gere, Kate Bosworth, Justin Long, Jason Sudeikis, Uma Thurman, Gerard Butler, Sean William Scott…the list goes on and on.  Basically, expect the unexpected in this interconnected web of shorts, skits, and comedic sketches.

John Dies at The End

After accidently consuming a miracle street drug nicknamed soy sauce, two users are given the ability to cross dimensions, see the never before unseen, and generally experience life in a completely horrific, yet subliminally awesome way. From director Don Coscarelli (Phantasm) and author David Wong comes this horrific albeit exceedingly goofy tale of monsters, zombies, and meat monsters.
