This week marks the seven year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina‘s devastation. Just as homes have been rebuilt, Isaac is making its way to New Orleans. According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami, the storm turned Category 1 on Tuesday and could flood four states within the Central Gulf Coast. Winds are traveling up to 75mph.
Shelters have been opened to those who decided to stay or did not have a chance to leave. The eye of the storm is expected to hit southeast Louisiana on Tuesday night or early Wednesday.
Although they did not order a mass evacuation, President Barack Obama said to Gulf Coast residents, “Now is not the time to tempt fate. Now is not the time to dismiss official warnings. You need to take this seriously.”
