“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,”Neil Armstrong said on the legendary day, July 20th,1969 when he became the first man to land on the moon. The famous commander of the Apollo 11 spacecraft passed away today at the age of 82 from complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures. Armstrong had undergone a bypass operation this month, according to NASA.
Armstrong’s moonwalk, along with Buzz Aldrin, marked America’s victory in the Cold War space race that began Oct. 4, 1957. Armstrong will always be remembered for his revolutionary contribution to American history. Today, the Ohio Historical Society’s Armstrong Air & Space Museum stands as a monument in his honor.
