Netflix has announced that production has officially wrapped on Season 2 of Little House on the Prairie, with several new cast members joining the series as the story moves to Walnut Grove.
The second season will follow On the Banks of Plum Creek, the next installment in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved book series.
“All of our incredible cast additions this year have made this season in Walnut Grove absolutely magical,” said showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine. “I’m so grateful to our hard-working crew, who worked tirelessly to make this new chapter come to life, and our partners at CBS Studios, Anonymous Content, and Netflix for being our unwavering champions.”
The returning cast includes Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls. Warren Christie returns as John Edwards, alongside Willa Dunn as Nellie Oleson, Rachelle Lefevre as Eva Beadle and Charlotte Sullivan as Margaret Oleson.
Ten additional actors are joining the cast, bringing new families and personalities to Walnut Grove.
Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, Ginny & Georgia) will portray Peter Ingalls, Charles’ older brother, while Paul Greene (When Calls the Heart) joins as Luther Perry, the town’s wealthy grain buyer and banker. Elyse Levesque (Orphan Black) will play his wife, Emma Perry, and David Wronko will portray their son, Thomas.
Erik Athavale (American Hostage) joins as Reverend Alden, Walnut Grove’s welcoming minister. Graham Harvey (The Night Agent) will play Johnny Johnson, a kindhearted farm boy and son of Norwegian immigrants.
Other additions include Martin Roach (Cross) as blacksmith Simon Hughes, Lyla Porter-Follows (High Potential) as widowed farm owner Lena Nelson, Jacinta Forest Lewitski as farm manager Hannah Walker and Ryan Northcott (Anna Pigeon) as William Oleson, owner of Walnut Grove’s finest store.
Produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studio, the new adaptation combines family drama with a story of survival and life on the American frontier. Sonnenshine serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly, Dana Fox and Pascal Verschooris.
The Little House on the Prairie franchise continues to attract audiences worldwide. According to Netflix, the series reached No. 1 on its Global Top 10 list and appeared in the Top 10 in 85 countries. The original television adaptation, which premiered in 1974, also remains popular, generating 13.25 billion viewing minutes in 2024, according to Nielsen.
Since their publication beginning in the 1930s, Wilder’s novels have sold more than 73 million copies in over 100 countries and have been translated into at least 27 languages.
Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date for Season 2.
