How La Roche-Posay Helped Me Manage My Dry Skin and Eczema

For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with eczema. Although it wasn’t constant, the flare-ups happened often enough that I learned the importance of taking care of my skin at a very young age. Growing up, my daily routine wasn’t just about brushing my teeth; it also included properly cleansing and caring for my face every morning and every night. That was when I was first introduced to La Roche-Posay.

But first, let me tell you where the name comes from.

La Roche-Posay is a commune in the Vienne department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France. This charming village is renowned for its thermal spring water, which has become the foundation of one of the world’s most respected skincare brands.

The story dates back to the 1400s. For more than six centuries, the thermal spring water at the heart of La Roche-Posay has been recognized for its soothing properties and has been used in the care of people with sensitive skin.

After a long illness that left me in and out of the hospital for months, my skin became almost unmanageable. It was so dry that none of the creams I had at home—even the ones I had always relied on—were strong enough to help.

During a visit to my dermatologist, I was recommended Cicaplast Balm B5+, a multi-purpose soothing cream designed for very dry, irritated skin. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was made by La Roche-Posay, a brand I had known since childhood.

The balm is formulated with Tribioma™, a proprietary prebiotic complex, and is designed to help hydrate cracked, chapped, and irritated skin while supporting the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Its non-greasy formula helps relieve dry, rough skin and protects against the drying effects of wind and cold, making it suitable for targeted areas experiencing irritation.

According to the manufacturer, it can also be used to help protect chafed skin, including diaper rash, and is suitable for adults, children, and babies one week of age and older. It has been accepted by the National Eczema Association and is also suitable for many patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Individuals should always consult their healthcare provider for guidance on products that are appropriate for their specific situation.

For me, the results were remarkable. Within one week, I noticed a significant improvement. My skin felt softer, calmer, and much more comfortable than it had in months. It wasn’t an overnight miracle, but it made a noticeable difference when nothing else seemed to work.

If you struggle with eczema or extremely dry skin, La Roche-Posay may be worth discussing with your dermatologist or healthcare professional. What worked for me may not work the same way for everyone, but it has become a product I always keep on hand.
