Industry Notes: Dave Chappelle, Netflix Series Orders and Prime Video Drops

A range of recent announcements across film, television, and live events highlights a busy stretch for the entertainment industry, with new distribution deals, premiere dates, and high-profile projects moving forward.

Prime Video released two bonus episodes of Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat. The episodes include a cast reunion hosted by James Marsden and a follow-up featuring participants Anthony Norman and Ronald Gladden, alongside new commentary tracks for the full season.

Live events are also in focus, as Dave Chappelle will headline a three-night run at the Hollywood Palladium from May 7–9 as part of the Netflix Is a Joke Fest. The shows will blend stand-up and music performances, with additional guest appearances expected.

Roadside Attractions and Saban Films have acquired U.S. rights to Crawlers, a horror-thriller directed by Angel Gómez Hernández and starring Matilda Lutz. Written by Jayson Rothwell, the film follows residents trapped inside a quarantined apartment complex as a deadly spider infestation spreads. Produced by the Thunder Road team behind the John Wick and Sicario franchises, the film is set for a nationwide theatrical release on October 2, 2026.

On the series front, Netflix has ordered Minimum Wage, a 28-episode workplace comedy from Jeremy Garelick and American High. Based on the viral short-form series, the show centers on a group of teenagers navigating the chaos of working in a local pizza shop while balancing school and low-wage jobs. The original digital content has amassed billions of views across platforms, with the series set to debut later this year.

In unscripted programming, Hearst Media Production Group has partnered with the Rose Bowl Institute and Walk Swiftly Productions to launch The Champion’s Edge with Bonnie Bernstein. Premiering May 9 on ABC stations nationwide, the weekly series highlights women leveraging lessons from athletics to succeed across industries, while also offering practical guidance on performance, nutrition, and wellness.

Documentary programming continues with FOOD ROOTS, from Emmy Award-winning restaurateur Billy Dec, which will premiere May 7 across PBS platforms during AANHPI Heritage Month. Directed by Michele Josue and executive produced by Doug Blush, the film follows Dec’s journey through the Philippines exploring family history, culture, and culinary traditions.
