But what is Golden Eve?
The Golden Globes introduced a new tradition this year with the inaugural Golden Eve, a standalone primetime special that aired ahead of the 83rd Annual Golden Globes. The event honored Helen Mirren, recipient of the 2026 Cecil B. DeMille Award, and Sarah Jessica Parker, recipient of the 2026 Carol Burnett Award, separating the organization’s highest honorary recognitions from the main awards ceremony for the first time.

Airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+, Golden Eve: The Golden Globes Honor Helen Mirren & Sarah Jessica Parker functioned as a focused tribute night rather than folding these moments into an already crowded awards broadcast. The move appeared designed to streamline the main Globes telecast while giving lifetime achievement honors the time and attention they often struggle to receive during a live, multi-hour ceremony.

Harrison Ford presented the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Mirren, while the evening also featured appearances from previous honorees Viola Davis and Ted Danson, alongside Carol Burnett, Colman Domingo, Kristin Davis, Tessa Thompson, and Vin Diesel. The tone was celebratory and reflective, centering on career milestones and cultural impact rather than time-restricted acceptance speeches.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award, first presented in 1952, has historically honored cinematic legacy, with past recipients including Barbra Streisand, Sidney Poitier, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford, Walt Disney, and Viola Davis. The Carol Burnett Award, introduced in 2019, recognizes lasting contributions to television, with previous honorees such as Ellen DeGeneres, Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy, and Ted Danson.

By shifting these honors to a separate night, the Golden Globes effectively reduced pressure on the main broadcast, which aired days later and marked the first major awards show of the season. Hosted by Nikki Glaser, the 83rd Annual Golden Globes focused more tightly on competitive film, television, and podcast categories, while Golden Eve stood on its own as a tribute-driven event.
Produced by Dick Clark Productions, with White Cherry Entertainment’s Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner returning as executive producing showrunners, Golden Eve suggested a structural evolution for the Globes.
