Netflix is saddling up for another chapter in the heart of Texas. The streaming giant announced today that its hit modern Western drama Ransom Canyon has officially been renewed for a second season.
Following a successful debut, Ransom Canyon made its mark by spending four consecutive weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV (English) list and securing Top 10 status in 77 countries.
“I couldn’t be happier that Netflix is ready to get back in the saddle for Ransom Canyon,” said showrunner, creator, and executive producer April Blair. “Our dreamy little corner of Texas Hill Country is full of stories still untold, and we can’t wait to bring them to our incredible fans. Get ready for another ride.”
Set against the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country, Ransom Canyon centers on three powerful ranching families entangled in a battle over land, love, and legacy. Season 1 followed stoic rancher Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) as he navigated grief, vengeance, and a rekindled love with Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), the local dance hall owner. The series blends sweeping landscapes with intimate character-driven drama, capturing viewers with its emotional depth and slow-burn storytelling.
The renewal of Ransom Canyon further strengthens Netflix’s growing lineup of “comfort entertainment” — a category that includes fan favorites like Virgin River, Sweet Magnolias, The Lincoln Lawyer, and My Life with the Walter Boys. This trend caters to audiences seeking emotionally rich, easy-to-watch stories ideal for solo viewing or binge-watching with loved ones. Netflix is also expanding this universe across mediums, with cozy-themed films like The Wrong Parisand Merry Little Ex-Mas, as well as games such as Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit and the upcoming Spirit Crossing.
Season 2 will once again be filmed at Netflix Studios Albuquerque, which recently underwent a major expansion. The upgraded facility includes four new soundstages and eco-conscious innovations such as onsite solar panels, battery storage systems, geothermal heating and cooling, and all-electric appliances. The goal: to reduce the studio’s carbon footprint, improve energy efficiency, and help produce more content that audiences love — sustainably.
