While cop and medical dramas have been the norm for past Fall TV seasons, this year love is in the air. There’s CBS’ “Marry Me” and “A-Z.” ABC also jumped on the match-making band wagon with the light and quirky comedy, “Manhattan Love Story” which premieres Tuesday September 30th at 8:30PM/7:30PM Central.

MLS is not all about ‘boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love;’ but more the trials and tribulations in between meeting someone and dating. Dana (Analeigh Tipton) has just moved to New York to pursue her dreams of working in the world of publishing. Her first day on the job and being set up with a friend of a friend, Peter (Jake McDorman)… and everything goes wrong. Throughout the series, the audience will hear Dana and Peter’s inner thoughts, offering a fun and revealing look at the differences of men and women as this couple traverse the highs and lows of dating.

The must-have sidekick friends, who seem to have the nicest apartment any 20-30 something couple could live in are David (Nicolas Wright) and Amy (Jade Catta-Preta). After Dana and Peter have a disastrous first blind date, David and Amy encourage their two friends to make nice and give a second date a try.

For the most part, the show is well cast with Tipton leading the way as the sweet and naive fresh New Yorker. After first coming on the scene in the zombie romance feature, “Warm Bodies,” playing the best friend, Tipton proves that she can take on a main role. McDorman is a fine Peter, although the chemistry between Tipton and McDorman could use a little more natural zest. In the real world, they seem to be an unlikely couple. The comic relief applause goes to Catta-Pretta and Wright’s characters.

With ABC’s heavy drama lineup, from “How To Get Away With Murder” to “Scandal” and “Revenge,” “Manhattan Love Story” is a nice light series.
