UFO enthusiast and blogger, Scott C. Waring posted on August 4th that he was watching NASA's live space camera (The High Definition Earth Viewing). He stated, "I took a screenshot of the UFO and enlarged it. It has a long line down its middle and a dome on its top, but is rectangle on its lower bottom." Having the public suspect UFO sightings and blame NASA for 'hiding' discoveries was not the space stations' mission when setting up the HDEV.
The camera system experiment places four commercially available HD cameras on the exterior of the space station and uses them to stream live video of Earth for viewing online. The cameras are enclosed in a temperature specific housing and are exposed to the harsh radiation of space. Analysis of the effect of space on the video quality, over the time HDEV is operational, may help engineers decide which cameras are the best types to use on future missions.
The short video clip from the space cam has started a small frenzy in the UFO blogosphere. The Mirror reported that 'furious extraterrestrial fans have accused the space agency of hiding the truth after the live feed appeared to be cut a webcam showing a mysterious white object to blank.
A 'glowing disk' was spotted on NASA's live webcam from the International Space Station last week, but after being on screen for a little over 30 seconds, the feed shut down.
