Just in time for Pride Month, a new mobile game is making waves in the gaming world.
Created by PeerPlay Games, an LGBTQ+-led game studio, Merge Cruise is being touted as the first casual mobile game to put LGBTQ+ characters and queer storytelling at the heart of the experience. The cozy murder mystery game takes players aboard a glamorous 2000s-era cruise ship, where mystery, camp, humor and unforgettable characters collide.
Founded by a team of gaming and entertainment professionals, PeerPlay Games was built around one simple philosophy: if the creators are having fun making the game, players will have fun playing it. With Merge Cruise, the studio aims to bring the energy, storytelling and pop culture flair often seen in television and film to the casual mobile gaming category.
The timing couldn’t be better. As West Hollywood kicks off Pride Month with one of the world’s largest annual Pride celebrations, Merge Cruise is bringing what the creators call “Big Deck Energy” to WeHo Pride Festival 2026.
From June 6-7, festival attendees can step directly into the world of Merge Cruise through a larger-than-life experiential activation designed to recreate the game’s iconic cruise ship setting.
Among the highlights:
- An immersive cruise deck experience inspired by the game
- An oversized glory hole dispensing mystery prizes
- A giant hot dog-shaped mister to help festivalgoers stay cool
- A double-decker bus offering live game demonstrations
- Special appearances by guest host Willam, the Emmy-nominated actor and fan-favorite star of RuPaul’s Drag Race
The activation was designed by Federico Laboureau, co-owner of creative agency Fuegos LA, who also served as lead production designer for Bad Bunny’s acclaimed halftime show.
While LGBTQ+ stories have found success across television, film and streaming, queer representation remains rare in casual mobile gaming. According to the company, 17% of active American gamers identify as LGBTQ+, yet fewer than 2% of games on major digital storefronts include LGBTQ+ characters or storylines.
PeerPlay believes there is a significant audience eager for inclusive storytelling, particularly among the adult female players who dominate the casual mobile gaming market.
